Building a Successful Massage Practice Extract

I. INTRODUCTION
The truth of the matter is this….
I got tired of seeing yet another course or yet another book about building a successful Massage practice written by, well written by who?
Marketing people
Business executives
Writers
Bureaucrats
Very often, these books or courses are written by people who have probably never massaged a client in their lives and would not even know how to tell a good Massage from a bad one.
In truth, I suspect many of these people are just trying to cash in on the phenomenal growth in popularity and demand for Massage throughout the world.
They don’t even write the word Massage with a capital ‘M’ – which tells you a great deal about how little they know. Every seriously successful Massage therapist knows that the most potent therapy on the planet should always be spelt with a capital “M”.
So, I thought it was probably time for a successful Massage therapist who has spent his life listening to, talking to and helping other therapists build their successful practices, to write something. That is how this book was born. You will find full and thorough references in the bibliography at the back of this book. Check it out now if you want to read the references of a true Bodyworker.
It is a very simple attempt to tell you how I built my own successful practice and how I was able to help other Massage therapists build their successful practices.
Anything of any value I have learnt about running a good business has been modelled on the only thing I know anything about – how to give a good Massage.
What I know is this…
What has driven me for over 20 years in this crazy beautiful business is the desire to help my clients walk through their lives a little lighter, and to support other therapists in their task of helping their clients to do the same.
The work of supporting Massage therapists in my monthly supervision groups has provided me with a wealth of stories and lessons to share – stories and lessons that real therapists have learned in attaining real success. It is my experience that those therapists who prioritise their own development by attending such groups are the ones who become successful.
So this book is not just about one therapist – it is the story of many different therapists who turned up for one day a month every month for several years. It is in these groups that I listen to the lives and dreams of Massage therapists and do my best to help them to build their practices. These are the stories upon which this approach of mine is based. At these regular monthly groups a great and exciting idea one month could turn out to be a total a flop the next month…
And the Massage therapist returns the next month, and then the real work begins.
Picking up the pieces.
Learning the lessons.
Going deeper into what is needed to both build a practice and to keep it going.
That is where I start this book from. Wanting to help you in the magnificent work of touch that you do. If you already have a successful practice, then you will recognise yourself in these pages – and perhaps learn a few valuable tips on how to make sure your practice stays successful.
Myself, I cannot think of anything more important than bringing powerful and healing touch to a touch starved world.
What you do is wonderful.
I hope this will inspire you to build or expand your practice in the unique way that only you can.
There are no short cuts.
There is just you, your dream and your passion for touch.
And 7 steps…
